About Me

I am an experienced, professional translator, proofreader and copy editor and have worked in the translation industry for 25 years.

I am from an academic background, so have always had an interest in and a flair for languages, and I enjoy the intellectual challenge of translation – converting not only the words of one language into another, but also the ideas, style, culture and context.

I graduated from Newcastle University in 1998 with a BA degree (with Joint Honours and a Distinction in Spoken Language) in French and German, before returning to my home town and completing an MA in Applied Translation Studies at the University of Leeds in 2000.

Following six years of in-house employment in translation and localisation project management, I have, for the last 18 years, been a freelance translator, proofreader and copy editor, working in and into English on a wide range of text types and subject fields. Over the years, I have translated, proofread and edited essays, articles, academic journals, press releases, websites, legal content, marketing material, advertising, manuals and corporate communications, to name but a few examples. I am familiar with UK and US English differences, accustomed to following authors’ style requirements and practised at editing AI-generated content, or machine translation.

I translate primarily from French and German into English – I have a strong cultural knowledge of both France and Germany, having spent time living and working in both countries. I do also offer translation and proofreading of general Spanish and Dutch texts, having completed intensive courses in both these languages.

As an English editor, I am meticulous, with a keen eye for detail and a steadfast dedication to getting things just right. I take a great deal of pride in what I do and strive always to produce work that is accurate, well written and idiomatic. I have a track record of providing a high-quality, reliable and prompt service.
